48 HRS INSIDER GUIDE
“Pure Poetry.” It’s what’s written on the wall of one of the so-called “miradouros,” a network of viewpoints offering the best views over the city. Perched atop the hills surrounding Lisbon, these scenic terraces offer spaces to sit and rest. If you are looking for some romance or you are simply in a contemplative mood, here’s the guide to the miradouros you can’t absolutely miss.
MIRADOURO DAS PORTAS DO SOL
It offers you one of the most memorable views of the city. Admire Alfama's rooftops, towers and domes descending towards the river Tangus.
MIRADOURO DE SÃO PEDRO DE ALCÂNTARA
With a beautiful garden and St. George Castle close by, it’s the most romantic of the miradouros. Go there at night, when the city is all lit up.
MIRADOURO DA GRAÇA
Trees provide plenty of shade at this miradouro, ideal for a late afternoon snack at the cafe just a few steps away.
MIRADOURO DA NOSSA SENHORA DO MONTE
It can definitely compete with the Miradouro de Sao Pedro for its romantic atmosphere. Come here to enjoy the most incredible sunsets!
MIRADOURO DE SANTA LUZIA
It offers a breathtaking view over the Alfama rooftops, Tagus river and the dome of the National Pantheon. A wonderful terrace, all framed by grapevine-draped trellises!
ELEVADOR DE SANTA JUSTA
You'll truly have the feeling of standing above the city in this charming turn-of-the-century elevator. Rossio Square is right below you, while the Castle exactly in front of you!
