ESCAPE THE CITY
There’s nothing more exciting than getting lost in the picturesque cobblestone streets of Lisbon. At a certain point, however, you might feel the need to escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. And can you think of a better way to relax than by visiting places that look like they belong to fairy tales? We can’t. Discover our 3 top suggestions for an unforgettable one-day excursion.
PALACIO NACIONAL DE QUELUZ
FIRST STOP: Built back in the 18th century, it’s one of the last great Rococo buildings to be designed in Europe. Conceived as a summer retreat for Dom Pedro of Braganza, the Palace is so magnificent that it’s often referred to as the “Portuguese Versailles.” Feel like a queen by wondering around its splendid rooms and historical gardens. It’s just a 20 min drive from Lisbon!
RESTAURANTE RESERVA (CASCAIS)
SECOND STOP: You’ve just visited the Rococo “treasure” and you feel quite hungry. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Jump on your car and head to Cascais, a charming fishing town along the coastline. Here we recommend lunch at the Restaurant Reserva, hosted in Villa Cascais guesthouse. Great view, excellent wines and yummy food. Daydreaming is possible.
PALACIO NACIONAL DE PENA (SINTRA)
LAST BUT NOT LEAST: With its rippling mountains, exotic plants and glittering palaces, Sintra town comes right out of a fairy tale. Walk around the beautiful park of the Palacio Nacional da Pena at sunset. Is there anything more magical than this?
